Social Media and the Student-Athlete:
In this one hour presentation, Attorney Judge uses the lens of social media to address a variety of risky student-athlete behaviors, including drug and alcohol use and abuse, liability for providing alcohol to minors, hazing, bullying and sexting. Student-athletes are treated as clients with the understanding that the talk is to give them the information needed to conduct a personal cost-benefit analysis when engaging in certain behaviors and when posting information online. Privacy is addressed in this session designed to get students to think about branding and to take personal responsibility for the image they project online. Ms. Judge uses a combination of photos, videos and cases to engage students to think about their online image and potential positive and negative consequences for their team, their school and their future.
