USC Upstate Diversity Conference

Description:

The purpose of the conference is to bring teacher candidates together on the topic of diversity in for 21st century teaching and learning. Student teachers from several South Carolina colleges and universities are expected to attend the conference. Attendees will enjoy a keynote speaker, break-out sessions, and entertainment by The Hendrix International Baccalaureate World School Choir.
The keynote address will be made by Michael Fosberg, an actor, teacher and writer. He will present a solo show titled “Incognito,” which delves into what happens when you discover you are not the person you thought you were…. that you have a family, a history, an ethnicity you never knew. “Incognito” asks powerful questions such as How would this discovery impact your life, the lives of those around you; your vision of yourself and society?
The conference breakout sessions will include: Assessment with RtI and Special Education; Strategies for Teaching and Assessing Diverse Learners; Changing the Game: Higher Standards, Greater Achievement with the Common Core; The Diverse Classroom: Perspectives from a First Year Teacher; Authentic Assessment: Environmental Science in an Urban School;
Do’s and Don’ts of Interaction and Diversity; and Dialect Correctness and Assessment of Diverse Populations in the Classroom.
